The City of Hutto has always invited and valued public input as the City develops its annual budget. But this year, Hutto is changing things up with speed-dating style budget talks! This new format is designed to provide more meaningful conversations between City taxpayers and leaders, and more often in the process.
To kick off the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) budget process, the City will host speed-dating style public input workshops for City of Hutto taxpayers, as follows:
- Saturday, April 22, from 9 am to 3 pm
- Saturday, May 13, from 9 am to 3 pm
- Both workshops will be held at Cottonwood Creek Elementary School: 3160 Limmer Loop, Hutto Tx 78634
Here's what you can generally expect at these high-energy workshops!
Key departments in the City will each have their own table. At the start of each workshop, City taxpayers in attendance will be divided into small groups among the tables.
The department head at each table will give that small group a brief overview about her/his department, then open up the conversation to suggestions and ideas. Department staff will take general notes.
After this brief conversation, the taxpayers will be prompted to rotate to the next table, similar to how "speed dating" is done! By the end of the workshop, they'll have made personal connections with all department heads.
Finally, the department heads will briefly summarize aloud to the entire audience any major themes of the input they heard at the workshop. In the following weeks, the department heads will attempt to develop cost estimates for these items, so they may be considered in the next phase of budget development this summer.
