Hutto Parks ready for play this summer

Volleyball

Summer is here! In anticipation of seasonal fun, the Hutto Parks and Recreation Department has been hard at work completing upgrades at many City parks.

Crews have spent the last several weeks and months trimming trees, cleaning up debris and beautifying all parks in the wake of Winter Storm Mara. Speaking of trees, Hutto is honored to have been recently recognized as a Tree City USA for the third time! This special recognition is given to cities who make the planting and care of trees a priority.

  • Sports enthusiasts will enjoy upgrades at Fritz Park, which include brand new netting and sand for the volleyball courts. Lights were also installed at the tennis courts so games can continue past sundown, up until 10 pm.
  • Over at Hutto Community Park, a new restroom facility was installed, and the concrete walking trails were repaired to ensure smooth sailing for runners, walkers, bikers and everyone in between.
  • A new ceiling was installed at the restroom facility at Holmstrom Field.
  • The Glenwood Splash Pad is open for the summer. Located at 101 Fishbaugh Lane, the free splash pad is open daily from 10 am to 8 pm.
  • Many Hutto playgrounds got an upgrade too, as engineered wood fiber playground mulch was installed at Creekside Park, Fritz Park, Hutto Community Park and Hutto Lake Park. (Engineered wood fiber is the most common type of playground safety surfacing and helps to reduce fall-related injuries.)

In other news about public recreation amenities, the hippo splash pad is now in operation at The Hutto Co-Op District! It's located adjacent right behind Top Notch Hamburgers. The developer/operator of the splash pad indicates that it will be operating from 10 am to 9 pm daily this summer. There are places to sit around the splash pad, including some shaded.

More improvements are in the works. Stay tuned and enjoy your summer! For more information about the Hutto Parks and Recreation Department, visit their webpage here and follow @HuttoPARD on Facebook.
