Improvements are coming to Ed Schmidt Boulevard (“Ed Schmidt”). The Hutto City Council recently directed City Staff to begin designing several upgrades to Ed Schmidt to enhance traffic flow and improve safety for pedestrians and drivers alike.
Design is anticipated to start in November for upgrades to the intersection of Ed Schmidt and Limmer Loop. Included in the initial scope of the project are the addition of an east-bound right turn lane from Ed Schmidt to Limmer Loop, and a north-bound right turn lane from Limmer Loop to Ed Schmidt.
Also in design is the determination for how to incorporate addition of sidewalk along Ed Schmidt, from US 79 to the Hutto Discovery United Methodist Church. Council has also approved a speed study designed to verify the posted speed limits along Ed Schmidt, with the overall goal of reducing incidents.
The Council directive comes on the heels of the presentation of a year-long study that was conducted on the corridor as part of the City’s FY 2023 Capital Improvement Plan. City Engineer Matt Rector presented the findings of the study to City Council in September, ahead of the vote to proceed with design for the most pressing needs.
