HUTTO, TX (April 22, 2022) Officials from the City of Hutto have been notified that the recent reevaluation of fire protection, water supply, and emergency communications services by the Insurance Service Office (ISO), along with the help of Hutto Fire Rescue, will aid in lowering both commercial and residential insurance beginning August 1, 2022.
ISO has determined that improvements with all these fire suppression and control resources will result in a new insurance rating of CLASS 1/1Y. This is the best rating possible.
ISO collects information on municipal fire protection efforts in communities throughout the United States. In these communities ISO analyzes the relevant data using their Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS), and then assigns a Public Protection Classification (PPC) from 1 to 10. CLASS 1 generally represents superior property fire protection, and CLASS 10 indicates that the area's fire-suppression program does not meet ISO's minimum criteria. The PPC number developed by ISO is one of several elements considered in the calculation of individual property insurance premiums by numerous companies. The purpose of the City of Hutto revaluation was to identify improvements since the last evaluation in 2012 with fire protection and control resources for insurance premium calculations only. This survey was not conducted for property loss prevention or life safety purposes.
By classifying a community's ability to suppress fires, ISO helps them evaluate their public fire protection services. The program provides an objective, nationwide standard that helps cities and fire departments in planning and budgeting for facilities, equipment, and training. And by securing lower fire insurance premiums for a community with better public fire protection, the PPC program provides incentives and rewards for communities that choose to improve their firefighting services. This new insurance rating of a CLASS 1/1Y also becomes a very important economic development tool for Hutto officials. There are only 74 communities in Texas with this ISO rating, and only 411 total in the United States.
