Tiffany Anders transformed a passion into a business when she launched baked’nsconed nearly a decade ago. Since 2012, the restaurant has been offering a variety of baked goods, scones, sandwiches, salads, coffee, cakes, desserts and more.
Before moving to Hutto and opening baked’nsconed, Anders spent 10 years as a sous chef at Bistro M in the border town of McAllen. Through her job, she was able to utilize her passion for baking scones and began selling her treats at the bistro and at local farmers markets in town.
“I had spent 10 years at the Bistro, had my son, and needed a change,” Anders said. “I began making and selling scones at the bistro and farmers markets in the valley and had the idea to open my own bakery. With the help of my family, baked’nsconed was created.”
As her hand-baked scones were flying off the shelves, Anders turned to her family to help convert her dreams into reality. As a result, family is at the core of baked’nsconed. They helped provide the final push to get the bakery launched and offered unlimited assistance as she built her restaurant from the ground up, all with a newborn son.
“The biggest challenge was leaving my life, hometown and job to start a business from scratch, with a newborn!” Anders said. “My family was very supportive. It was truly a family affair in the beginning, and it sometimes even still is. Without them, none of this would have happened.”
baked’nsconed has modernized the scone, providing a variety of sweet and savory flavors. Anders put a spin on the traditional British treat, offering sweeter and softer scones consistent with a mix of cake and biscuit texture. Popular flavors include lemon blueberry, sconeberry munch and sconerdoodle.
As baked’nsconed nears its 10-year anniversary, Anders knows she can’t rest on her laurels. She prides herself on continuing to learn and continuing to improve.
“I’m still learning,” she said. “It is definitely more work than I ever thought, but at the same time, I can’t see myself doing anything else. Over the years we have been lucky enough to have customers turn into our friends and our crew become a family. I am so happy we opened baked’nsconed.”
Located at 143 Exchange Boulevard in Suite 100, baked’nsconed serves up their delicious breakfast and lunch items from 6 am to 2 pm Monday though Friday and from 7 am to 2 pm Saturday. For more information, visit their website and Facebook page.
