Hutto residents feel great about many aspects of City services – so good in fact that current public opinion about living in Hutto is significantly better than most cities in Texas.
In a recent study by third-party experts about the Hutto community, local residents gave exceptionally strong marks on Hutto “as a place to live” and “as a place to raise children.” They also reported satisfaction levels much higher than the Texas average about City services such as:
- Public safety
- Traffic enforcement
- Library services
- City communication
- Customer service
- Stormwater management / flood control
- Animal control
- Solid waste / wastewater services
This week, the results of the 2024 City Services & Culture community survey were published for the City of Hutto and discussed by Hutto City Council. The survey results were also discussed in detail by staff across City departments, to continue building a culture of listening between City leaders and the community we serve.
This is the flagship survey the City contracts every other year to expert researchers from ETC Institute, who conduct similar surveys of cities all across the state and nation. ETC’s methodology ensures the actual demographics of the diverse Hutto community are represented and can be properly benchmarked in comparison to other communities. The survey data are a key input for City leaders both in their Strategic Planning efforts as well as annual budget development. The study looked not only at current City services and facilities, but also potential future investments (both programs and facilities) as well as diversity and inclusion issues.
While the survey identified many areas where Hutto is performing well and has improved since the 2022 survey, it also spotlighted Hutto residents’ concerns and the areas they want the City to sharpen its focus on. The top priorities for investment as expressed by the Hutto community are:
1. Flow of traffic on major roads/highways
2. Flow of traffic on City streets
3. Maintenance of City streets
4. Water utility services
5. Parks, trails, and recreation facilities
