National Night Out
In Octobers neighborhoods throughout Hutto join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "National Night Out" (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Hutto Police Department, will involve over 16 thousand communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38 million people are expected to participate in "America's Night Out Against Crime",
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized.
Although NNO is a one day/night of the year event, neighbors repeatedly report that the neighbors they meet that day help to build stronger neighborhoods throughout the year. The relationships enable them to stay connected to one another, and help to encourage dialogue between each other so if they see or hear activities, they inform each other.
To participate, talk with your neighbors and organize a block party. While planning the event, sign your subdivision up with the Hutto Police Department to receive an official NNO banner for display. Once the block party has signed up, members of the Hutto Police Department, Hutto Fire Department, Hutto City Council members, and City of Hutto staff will visit each subdivision.
Neighborhoods choose what works for them as far as what and how they will hold their events. Along with the traditional block parties, many neighbors 'celebrate' NNO with events and activities such as cook outs, barbeques, pot luck dinners, petting zoos, games, sidewalk chalk and treasure hunts.
To sign up print the “Register my Neighborhood” form. Forms can either be emailed or dropped off at the Hutto Police Department.
Hosts will receive a "National Night Out" Banner!
