Hotel Occupancy Tax Funding
The City Council adopted a Hotel Tax Use Policy in 2009, to provide guidance on how hotel/motel tax revenues may be spent. The Policy is in accordance of Chapter 351 of the Texas Tax Code and was updated in June 2014. The funds must be used to promote tourism and the local convention and hotel industry.

The following are permitted uses of Hotel Occupancy Tax revenues, in accordance with Chapter 351 of the Texas Tax Code Section 351.101(a) and the City of Hutto policy.

  • Convention and Visitor's Bureau functions (operation of CVB, advertising)
  • Promotion of the Arts
  • Historical Restoration and Museums
  • Sporting Event Promotion
  • Enhancement of Existing Sports Facilities
  • Signage (related to tourism)

The Downtown & Tourism Department will accept applications for funding consideration May 2 through May 31, annually. Applications will be considered by the City Council and funding approved prior to September 30.
